UserIf you are a serious website owner, it is imperative that you find ways to know more about your site's visitors. And at this time and age, installing counters is no longer the singular tool at your disposal. In fact, there a lot of free website analytic package available which can give you as much information as their paid counterparts. Almost a month ago, June 26,  I upgraded QED IT Solutions from static web site into a CMS powered site using Joomla 1.5. The day during its launch I signed for a free account at SiteMeter and Google Analytics

In a span of 27 days, Sitemeter logged 1,037 unique visits and 1,235 pageviews for QED IT Solutions. A quick summary of QED's site statistics are as follows:

Site Stats

The stats above shows just the traffic information. Sitemeter can also give you an idea where you visitors are coming from (see image below).

Country Stat

Knowing what browsers your visitors are using can give you an idea how important it is to write valid code to ensure your site renders correctly among the different browsers.

Browsers Stats

These stats are far from awesome compared to other well known sites or blogs, but my point is: whatever your budget, you can always have a site statistics/analytic package for your site that can give you useful information.

These are all from Sitemeter, I haven't extracted the information from Google Analytic. For an owner's or web developer's perspective these are useful information one can use to determine improvements or direction for your website.
